UFS101-2nd Vocabulary Entry

1. Word : Poverty
Meaning : Poverty is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money
Example : The Hunger Project works for sustainable end to hunger and poverty.


2. Word : Destitution
Meaning : extremely poor and lacking the means to provide for oneself:
Example : He died on 7 March 1935, in utter destitution, alone without even a priest to assist him in his last moments.

3. Word : Inability
Meaning : lack of the ability to do something
Example : Inability of the state to deliver the welfare standards that the masses still demand.

4. Word : Incapable
Meaning :Not being capable (of doing something)
Example : In social issues, mutual distrust plays such a key rule, rendering society incapable of engaging in concerted action.

5. Word : Starvation
Meaning : a condition of severe suffering due to a lack of nutrition
Example : With people facing starvation,they decided to close the soup kitchen they had opened two years earlier.

6. Word : Deprivation
Meaning : The act of depriving, dispossessing, or bereaving; the act of deposing or divesting of some dignity
Example : Deprivation of liberty by administrative decision cannot be right without judicial oversight.

7. Word : Dearth
Meaning : A period or condition when food is rare and hence expensive.
Example : It seems very likely that the relative dearth of political science studies is coming to an end.


8. Word : Thwart
Meaning : To make difficult to accomplish,to frustrate, act as obstacle.
Example : Thwart attempts to disguise alcohol by mixing with soft drink.


9. Word : Famine
Meaning : a period of extreme shortage of food in a region.
Example : You will helping to alleviate human famine by taking less out of the world's finite resources.


10. Word : Drought
Meaning : A period of below average rain fall, longer and more severe than a dry spell.
Example : Genes from desert plants can be used to produce crops that withstand drought.
